Extend your visa-exempt or tourist-visa stay once, by up to 30 days
Who this is for
This applies if you're on a Tourist Visa or a visa exemption of up to 30 days for tourism, including the 30-day scheme from 15 Sep 2026. It also covers the 15-day exemption, though the length you'd actually get isn't confirmed yet.
Source: Bangkok Immigration Division 1: visa extension (category 4) (Official), checked 25 September 2026
If you entered before 15 Sep 2026 on the old 60-day exemption, you may be able to extend by 30 days. Check with immigration. This edge case ends on its own: the last grandfathered 60-day stays expire around 13 Nov 2026.
Unverified Founder guidance, Chiang Mai (not independently confirmed), checked 26 September 2026
If you're from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Nepal, Togo, Nigeria or Uganda, you're capped at 7 days, not 30.

When
You're granted this once, for up to 30 days (7 for the nationalities above) past your permitted stay. The officer decides how many days. It's discretionary.

Extend your DTV stay: one extension per entry, at your local immigration office
Who this is for
Extending is possible, but most DTV holders don't. You can extend once, for up to 180 days, at immigration (fee, forms and proof of funds apply). Leaving Thailand and re-entering on your DTV gives you a fresh 180 days, and is usually simpler.
Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs: DTV visa sheet (July 2024), "Extension of Stay: 1-time for a period not exceeding 180 days per entry" (Official), checked 23 September 2026
This applies if you hold a DTV and you're in Thailand, before your “admitted until” date. There are three categories: Telework (Workcation), Other activities (Soft Power), and Dependants (a spouse or child under 20 of a category 1 or 2 holder).

You can extend once, by 180 days, per entry.
Source: Thaiger (re-fetched 2026-09-25) and Siam Legal (per the 2026-09-23 research pass) (Corroborated), checked 25 September 2026
After about 360 days on one entry, you need to leave and re-enter.
Unverified No primary source yet, checked 23 September 2026
Extending past 180 days in a calendar year can make you a Thai tax resident. That's the founder's own informational note, not immigration law.

When
This comes up when your permitted stay is ending and you want to stay longer on the same entry.
Source: Bangkok Immigration Division 1: visa extension (Official), checked 25 September 2026
Apply 2–4 weeks before your permitted stay ends. Thai Immigration hasn't confirmed this. Treat it as a rough guide, and check with your immigration office.
